Smiths Gore/Savills Merger

Chris Anderson, agent for CWMCL, would like to inform all members that on 21st April 2015, Smiths Gore and Savills (UK) Limited announced their intention to merge their rural practices into a single business. It is expected that this merger will complete at the end of May.

Both firms were founded in the mid 19th Century as land agency practices. Smiths Gore is proud of its achievements in developing the firm into a leading national provider of rural property services. Savills has meanwhile become a major real estate advisory firm, listed on the London Stock Exchange with an international network of more than 600 offices and associates. The two firms’ UK rural practices are similar in size and the combined rural business will operate out of 54 offices, from Fochabers and Aberdeen in the North, to Truro in the South West and Maidstone in the South East.

The merger of the two firms’ rural businesses will have a number of clear benefits for clients, drawing on the depth of our combined rural foundations, the strength of Savills real estate services and the natural geographical fit between the two firms. This will result in an exceptional national service, providing clients with the opportunity to take advantage of the widest range of skills and services on offer in the rural sector. Our clients will benefit from the pooling of talent from both firms and the merger will also enable our staff to share in a huge wealth of knowledge and to develop areas of expertise across a greater breadth of disciplines. In addition, existing teams and their skills will be strengthened where required, ensuring that they are properly resourced and structured to service each client’s requirements.

It will be business as usual for both firms’ clients, who will continue to be serviced by the same staff, with no changes to the support that is provided to CWMCL.

If you have any questions please do not hesitate to contact Chris directly via email christopher.anderson@smithsgore.co.uk or 01872 274646.

Seagull proof bags

New reusable seagull proof protective rubbish sacks are now on sale at £3.50 from the St Austell One Stop Shop.

The decision to sell the bags has come following a successful trial in five areas in Cornwall.

Seagulls can be a nuisance by ripping up our unprotected rubbish bags and scattering it all over the place.

Seagulls are not the only villain’s; crows, foxes and cats can all make a meal and a mess out of our rubbish.

The seagull proof sacks hold around three black sacks of rubbish and have a weighted base, a secure Velcro fastening and a tie at the back to stop them blowing away after collection

The sacks are designed to deter attacks on bags of rubbish by most animals and birds. They are most beneficial in seaside towns, where seagulls can be a real nuisance on rubbish collection day.
